We're glad you're here. The Kids With Courage Foundation exists because there are
over 13,000 newly diagnosed children and young people with Type 1 diabetes each year
in the United States. Little boys and girls growing up with this life-long disease
are forced to bear the burdens of this dreadful, life altering, life threatening
disease that affects every organ of their bodies. These children face numerous
challenges and overcome adversity through discipline, perseverance and hard work.
They must, or they will suffer grave consequences.
The best health possible, and all around well being is what we wish and are the
ultimate goals for our children and young people with Type 1 diabetes, our "Kids
With Courage". Our foundation works to provide practical and distinct support
programs that have a direct and immediate influence in the lives of children, young
people, and families battling this disease.

You don't have to be someone special in order to become
courageous. Rather, you become someone special
when you act courageously.
Encouragement Delivered
Imagine your child being diagnosed with an incurable disease that demands a lifetime
of care and threatens your child's existence. The news that Type 1 diabetes is
now your child's life-long companion is devastating and overwhelming emotionally,
medically and psychologically. It takes a lot of heart and courage to cope.
To help these children, young people and families, the The Kids With Courage Foundation
began delivering a "Crate Full of Courage" to every newly diagnosed patient with Type 1
diabetes at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City on September 17, 2007. Our
"Crate Full of Courage" empowers children and families, by encouraging education,
awareness and advocacy, all of which are essential.
We cheerfully paint and decorate crates, fill them with much needed comfort and
support items as well as educational and resource materials. Like the patient
who receives it, each crate is unique in its design, color scheme and personality.
We are on target to deliver 300 packages of encouragement on an annual basis.
E-mails, phone calls and notes are being received at our foundation office:
"My 11 year old daughter was diagnosed this past week. She absolutely loved
the crate and all the good stuff that was in there. We would love to be involved
in anything that you all have going on in the community."
"While we were visiting our family in Overland Park, KS, our youngest grandson was
diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital. When we
went to visit him, we noticed a lovely package with wonderful information on this
